A Collection for the Neighbourhood

Barb E Rickard has made a collection of flags to hang in her garden.

"I've just made a baker's dozen of prayer flags that are now hanging in my garden.  The photos are posted on my blog along with a little story as to why I've decided to hang them and the plan to create more."

A Collection

Prayer flag

Today we hear from Susi Costello.
"I made my prayer flag as part of Carly Marie's healing project to help break the silence surrounding child death. My flag has embroidered panels for love, light, and truth as well as one with my daughter Tigerlily's name and the day she was born/died. It was both incredibly difficult and wonderfully purposeful to make these in honor of my daughter."

Day of Hope

"We lost our son Dylan during the third trimester, due to complications from HELLP Syndrome, a pregnancy specific condition.  A beloved son, brother, and grandson; he is our little blue dragonfly.  A reminder of how quick everything can turn, the fragility of life.  My hope for my family is to focus on strength, love and joy.

This is a prayer flag I made for the event: August 19th - Day of Hope is a day that is held internationally each year since 2008. It was created to help break the silence surrounding the death of babies and children. Part of this very special day is The August 19th - Day of Hope Prayer Flag Project which is a profoundly moving, poignant and peaceful way to break the silence surrounding the death of babies and children."

For John

Today we hear from Maryly Matthewman

" This is our Prayer Flag Protect. We renamed it Wish Flag Project for John Bradley Thompson but the ideas are still the same.

John Bradley is a little boy currently at St. Jude's Hospital in Memphis receiving radiation and chemotherapy for a very rare brain tumor, DIPG.  We had our kick off day today with the Wish Flags and we gave out 85 flags and people were very generous in their donations. Many more flag kits are coming. Here are some of the flags.

John is in Memphis with his net at the ready to catch all the wishes."

Collection from Chigaco.

Karen Hoyer has sent in these lovely photos of flags created at her church

"Your site really inspired us! Our church, St. John's Episcopal in Chicago, created a series of Prayer Flags and Wish Trees.  We were celebrating Rogation Sunday by blessing the soil, the seeds and our new beehives.  Our inter-generational project was to write our wishes, prayers and dreams along with pictures or symbols, onto the Prayer Flags and the strips of fabric for the Wish Trees.  They will hang in the church's garden all summer."

Thank you Karen

Two sided Flags to remember the tornado victims.

Faye Cook has made some more memorial /prayer flags.
"These 2 are for the towns affected by the tornadoes in the US. I hadn't finished Granbury's flag when the next tornado struck."

"One side holds my prayers of love and better communities when they rebuild after this destruction. The other side is a memorial to the destruction and lost lives."

Garlands of Prayers for Everyone, Everywhere

My now completed garland of prayer flags waves across the entry way in our home in Salem, Oregon. I feel their grace, their power, and their love... every time I look up, or pass under them.

And I look in absolute and utter amazement at this KTSX news photo of a school ceiling in Oklahoma. The signs of the horrific devastation of a tornado's path.

Tattered curtains and broken lights and a view of the heavens above. An incredibly powerful image that evokes the feeling of prayer flags and bells.

Prayers now released and finding their way across the 20 mile path of destruction. Beauty of spirit within chaos, loss, pain, and destruction. And it reminds me of my own roots and why I am so drawn to these signs, and symbols of something far greater than just the destruction.

I am reminded that after everything else is destroyed..there is still goodness. and there is still great love.

Aloha

Sonia Hagemann has sent this flag

"My latest prayer flag is Aloha and that one was sent to Boston last week.
The word Aloha has many, many definitions with love perhaps top of the list."

More flags from New Orleans

"Here are my prayer flags that I finished & hung today.  They represent my prayers for all creatures great and small, my tree of life is my prayer for all mankind, and my prayer for living in  peace with our worldwide neighbors.   I can’t wait to see the Dalai Lama tomorrow in New Orleans."

REOPEN
REBIRTH

To Boston with Love

Michelle Bilyeu shares these flags for Boston

"When I first discovered that the Vancouver Modern Quilt Guild was asking for prayer flags for Boston, I thought to myself..in this order...I'm not a 'modern' quilter...(I like to see myself as improvisational,or liberated, not 'modern';)..... I've already made a Boston prayer flag (and shared it)....I don't have one single moment of extra time and..... how can I keep doing what I do.... and survive my busy life....and then......as I always, always do..

.....ok, so why can't I make a prayer flag for Boston????

So, I did!"

Good Health

"West" and "Boston"

West

Today these flags are from Faye Cook.
"I've been making prayer/ memorial flags on and off for years (if I don't make a flag its a spirit doll).
Some are for peace love and happiness and some are about events that have happened in the world or to me. Making flags or dolls about whats happened helps me come to terms with different events as well as placing a prayer out there.

'West' is for the folks at West, Texas after their fertilizer factory fire/explosion.That must have been a hell of a night of chaos and worry a bit like being to hell and back."

Boston-front

"Boston is of course about the Boston bombings, if you look at the swirls they make question marks because I just don't understand how you can do something like that."

Boston-back

"My response to such a horrible event is to love ,love those how suffered and love those who caused the suffering. That is why the flip side of Boston flag has the old slogan of "make LOVE not war" on it.

Hoping you like or at least can relate to my prayer flags"  cheers Faye
