Never Forget

Today Julie Hernandez shares her flags with us.

" I am an artist and art teacher in North Texas. My students and I are starting off the New Year by making prayer flags. First, I wanted to send this one I just finished.  It is a prayer flag for Sandy Hook Elementary, which is still deeply on my heart.  The decorative skulls reference the Dia de los Muertos tradition of remembering and celebrating the lives of those who have passed.  And the way they are cropped and positioned created a perfect area of negative space for the names of the 26 victims to fit.  This flag is a tribute to them, and a prayer for their friends and family left behind.  In fact, it is a prayer for all of us."

Something Different

Shari Adkisson writes to tell us about prayer flags with a difference.

"Aprons as prayer flags send the wishes and hopes of women into the universe. We are asking for aprons for our 2013 exhibit at the National Hispanic Cultural Center in Albuquerque NM. The deadline for submitting aprons is Feb. 15th, 2013. For information see our website womynswork or our facebook page "

Let there be Light!

Can I get away with that as a title?
U.K. readers will know that the days have been overcast and grey here, with low levels of light for months.
I am so glad that the nights are getting shorter.

Working on this has brightened up my evenings.
Completed yesterday, it seems today my wish has been granted, as this morning I find blue skies and sunshine!

So my prayer to everyone is that the light is shining, wherever it is needed.

New Home

Hanneke Wood created this flag for her niece, moving into a new home. She used hand painted fabric, some wool, a wee bird and Angelina fibres. It was well received. "The prayer flag is such a beautiful concept and so simple" says Hanneke.
