Hearts Mend

Anne Westhart joins us and writes" I've recently completed my first prayer flag.  My goal is to do a prayer flag that will correspond to each chapter of an art book that I'm working on.  This flag is special in that it's my first flag but its words have thus far been one of the greatest lessons that I've learned about life and living."

for Hershey, the chocolate lab

Linda Kunsman writes "I knew I wanted to start making some flags eventually but what I didn't know was that the first flag I'd make would also be in loving memory of the loss of a pet. My friend Trina adopted Hershey, a gorgeous chocolate field spaniel, from a couple who weren't able to care for her due to their busy schedules.

Unfortunately Hershey's health began rapidly declining a few months ago, and anyone who has had to experience making the decision to end the pain and suffering can understand what a heart-wrenching decision it can be. Towards the end, Hershey spent time at the beach with Trina- a place they both love. I was able to spend one of the weekends along with them and Hershey truly looked and felt better tho we knew deep down she was still suffering. Trina made her peace with her decision and with her beloved dog and ended her suffering. Here was my gift in memory of Hershey:

A flag for Hannah

Prayers for Hannah
Melissa Synder created this flag for her dog, Hannah. Hannah, a Welsh Terrier, was her constant companion for the last twelve years who passed away in February.  Melissa wanted to honor her with a flag and send to her, through my prayers, her favorite things.

Prayer leaves from Rosemary Buswell

Land art by Rosemary Buswell
Welcome Rosemary Buswell!  She created this wonderful piece a few years ago, and wanted to share it with us.

Here's what Rosemary wrote: "This piece was inspired by Balinese Prayer Flags, and created to express feelings about humanity, art, nature and spirituality, for a Land Art Exhibition entitled 'Healing'. It consists of Seven 9ft high bamboo poles, with real leaves which have been pressed, left natural on one side, and decorated with images and quotes on the other, and then laminated, so giving a fresh lease of life to the leaves with messages of hope and strength. It is called 'Have you ever considered turning over an old leaf'? It was originally 'weathered' outdoors in 2008 in the UK, and the piece has since been repaired and revitalized, and was then exhibited again in Wales, UK in 2010. I donated it to this last show, where it will remain outdoors until it eventually weathers into disintegration."
